How to Use Your Iron-On Embroidered Patches

Iron-on embroidered patches are an easy and creative way to breathe new life into your clothes, or add a little personalisation to your accessories, and we love them here at Finest Imaginary! Whether you're looking to add a bit of you to a plain jacket or add flair to your fave bag, these patches are a fun DIY project that anyone can tackle.
How to Apply Iron-On Patches:
Applying an iron-on patch is super simple! Here’s how to do it:
-
Place your patch where you want it on the fabric (I recommend using a cotton based fabric).
-
Cover with a thin cloth (like a tea towel) to protect the patch and fabric.
-
Set your iron to medium heat, with no steam.
-
Press the iron firmly on the patch for about 30 seconds. Don’t move the iron around, as this may shift the patch.
-
Let it cool and make sure the edges are sealed. For added durability, sew around the patch for a secure finish, alternatively you can JUST sew the patch on which will give you the ability to remove the patch and use it somewhere else easily.
Best Clothing & Accessories for Iron-On Patches:
Iron-on patches look great on jackets, especially denim or canvas (as mentioned above, cotton based fabric will always work best because you don't have the risk of melting!). They also work well on backpacks and hats. Customising plain t-shirts and hoodies with a patch is also a super fun way of personalising your items.
The possibilities are endless, and the patches add a fun, personalised touch to anything!
Top Patches to Try:
Here at Finest Imaginary I've designed a bunch of iron-on patches that suit any personality. From bookish designs to nature-inspired patches, and even ones celebrating parts of Yorkshire, each one will add a playful vibe to your clothing and accessories.
Care Tips:
To ensure your patch stays in perfect condition, turn your clothing inside out when washing and opt for a gentle cycle. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat may damage the patch.
Iron-on embroidered patches are the easiest way to add a unique, personalised touch to your everyday wear. With a little creativity and some basic tools, you can transform any piece of clothing into something special.
